Gottman Method Couples Counseling
Drs. John and Julie Gottman are the founders of the Gottman Method. They used John's unparalleled research and Julie's clinical expertise to create a unique, evidence based couples therapy model that is often considered the golden standard when working with couples. Many who have not had luck with traditional couples therapy will give this model a try and find success. The Gottman Institute has grown to offer workshops for couples, training for therapists, and countless additional resources. Since they have become such a leading, distinctive model in couples therapy, they have a special training track for therapists looking to become certified in the Gottman method. Luckily, our own Kate Kindle has completed various levels, making her highly equipped to use this model with her clients. In fact, Kate has also presented on the Gottman method to colleagues.
How Relationship Counseling Can Help
To summarize the Gottman model is difficult but one primary idea is to strengthen the friendship, the foundation, then work to fortify the other "levels" of the "Sound Relationship House". An assessment is used to identify relative strengths and areas of necessary growth within the relationship. Communication is addressed through not allowing "the Four Horsemen" to exist and teaching how to acknowledge a "bid" from your partner. If this sounds like a therapy model that could benefit you and your significant other, call to schedule an appointment with Kate today.
